description South Shore Group Campground is the only group campground at Haystack Reservoir. It is a 50-acre camping area with three group campsites that hold up to 50 people each. These campsites are located close to the lake with beautiful views of the Cascade Mountains. It is a quiet campground with plenty of juniper trees and sagebrush for privacy screening. You cannot view the other campsites from your group site. It is located behind a closed gate where you are given access when camping. It is primitive camping with no water, electric or sewer hookups. Water is available two miles away at West Shore Recreation Area.
drivingDirection From Highway 97: Exit Jericho Lane and head East for approximately 1.25 miles. Turn right on Springer Road (FS 7130/FS 96) and proceed approximately 1.5 miles. South Shore Campground will be on the left. From Highway 26: Exit Laurel Lane (FS 96) and head west for approximately four miles. Turn right onto Springer Road (FS 7130/FS 96) and continue approximately 2.5 miles. South Shore Campground will be on the right.
facilitiesDescription The campground has three primitive group campsites with picnic tables, campfire rings, parking and gravel roads. Vault toilets are near each campsite. The group campsites are Willow, Juniper and Cottonwood with lots of vegetation for privacy screening and close to the lake with great views of the mountains on a sunny day. There are no water, sewer or electric hookups. Water is available two miles away at West Shore Recreation Area. You will check in with the Campground Host at West Shore Recreation Area to get access to South Shore Group Campground since it has a locked gate.

You need to check in with the Campground Host at West Shore Recreation Area, two miles away, to receive your access instructions. You will need a copy of your reservations for the Camp Host to confirm. Don't Move Firewood: Please protect Pacific Northwest forests by preventing the spread of invasive species. Firewood can carry insects and diseases that can threaten the health of our western forests. You can make a difference by obtaining and burning your firewood near your camping destination. nearbyAttrctionDescription Several state parks including Smith Rock and Cove Palisades State Parks are nearby. Smith Rock State Park features world class rock climbing. The Lower Deschutes Wild and Scenic River is a popular destination for both whitewater rafting and fishing. Nearby National Forest Service Grasslands feature Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) trails and horseback riding.

orientationDescription South Shore is located in a high desert landscape with picturesque views of the Cascade Mountains from each group campsite. High desert weather is mostly sunny and warm a majority of the time. Juniper trees, sage brush and bitter brush are throughout the campground. Lakeside views and access to this small, intimate reservoir make it a beautiful spot in Central Oregon to relax and recreate. Waterfowl, deer, eagles, and osprey are some of the wildlife you will see while at Haystack Reservoir.

Haystack Lake offers boating, fishing, hiking, camping and sightseeing. The surrounding Central Oregon area is a destination for a variety of recreation opportunities such as boating, hiking, fishing, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, hunting and designated Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) trails. Several premier Oregon State Parks are nearby for recreation use.
